Choosing Your Size

Shibui styles may be purchased in one of two ways:

1.    Order a made-to-wear dress based on the Shibui Designs size chart below.
2.    Order a dress using Shibui Custom Sizing.

Shibui dresses are designed specifically to fit and flatter.  As our bodies change, fit becomes even more important to ensuring that clothes are flattering.  Shibui sizes reflect these changes. American sizing is not standardized, and Shibui sizes do not conform to the sizes offered by most dress lines.  Please take your measurements to determine the right Shibui size for you.

Shibui Custom Sizing

Many of us are not perfectly proportioned; a dress that fits across the bust may be too small in the hips, for instance.  Shibui Custom Sizing allows you to order a dress that is handcrafted to your specific measurements.

To customize a dress, you will need to provide us with a set of eight (8) measurements.  In order to assure the best measurements possible, we suggest taking and entering them in the chart below three times;  the program will calculate the average with which we will construct your dress. It is recommended that a friend/spouse/tailor take these measurements if possible.

Please have the measurements taken carefully and accurately, but do NOT obsess over this, as the average of all three will provide the best guide.  Just follow the instructions below; they will guide you through the measuring process… and please feel free to contact us at any time if you wish additional information.

In order to take the measurements, you will need the following:
•    A spouse/friend/colleague/tailor to take these for you
•    A tape measure

Use our online Custom Sizing Chart or print out and follow these instructions:

Waistline measurement

Take the measurement snugly but not tightly around the waist and bend from side to side so that the tape finds the smallest indentation around your waist and is parallel to the floor.  It should be roughly l” above your navel.  Rest assured that, although it may feel a bit high, it is the appropriate measurement and is the one on which all the upper body measurements are based.

Bust Measurement

This measurement is taken around the fullest part of the chest across the bust points and parallel to the floor. The tape should be snug, but not tight enough to flatten the bust.

Back Shoulder Width Measurement

The back shoulder width measurement is taken between shoulder points across the upper back. To find your shoulder points, run your finger along your shoulder from your neck out towards your shoulder.  About an inch or so before reaching the end of your shoulder, you will feel a slight dent or hollow prior to the slight rounding up at the end of the shoulder. This is the shoulder point.

Neck Circumference Measurement

This measurement is taken snugly but not tightly around the middle of the neck.

Hip Circumference Measurement

Measure around the hip at its fullest point roughly 8″ from the waistline.  Be sure that the measuring tape is parallel to the floor.

Bicep Circumference Measurement

This measurement should be taken around the bicep at its fullest part when the arm is bent and the hand is fisted.

Bra Size

Please provide your customary bra size (as in 36B).

Height

Please give us your height in inches.
